According to the Charlotte Observer, a 33-year-old North Carolina man plead guilty Tuesday in Hickory, to breaking the jaw of a 78-year-old Vietnam War veteran nearly a year ago.

Clarence Martin Hayes III was handed a suspended “split” sentence of 16 to 29 months, to go along with 30 months of probation.

He’ll spend at least one month in jail.

Last summer, in June, the younger man punched James Stonemetz square in the face after the decorated vet (he earned a Bronze Star) confronted him about driving an ATV right over his lawn after he had already warned him not to.

The former service member’s mouth was wired shut for six weeks.

This on top of the nasty side effects he suffers on a regular basis due to his exposure to Agent Orange in Vietnam.
