A man was arrested on Thanksgiving Day for jumping the White House fence draped in an American flag and holding multiple items — including a pocket-sized guide to the Constitution, weightlifting gloves and a Captain America USB drive. He was apprehended by Secret Service agents almost immediately, while the Obama family enjoyed the holiday inside the presidential estate.

Joseph Caputo, 23, of Stamford, Connecticut, was charged with illegal entry of restricted grounds when he appeared in court Friday. He was then taken for a psychiatric evaluation at St. Elizabeth Hospital.

He’ll appear once again at a hearing at DC District Court on Monday.

This from CNN:

According to court documents, Caputo left a suicide note with two associates he had been staying with since Monday and left a message for his mother that he might not see her again.

“Death is a natural part of life. Rejoice for those around us who transform into the Force,” he wrote in the note, according to the documents.

When confronted by Secret Service agents, Caputo made statements including, “I love my country,” and “I knew I would be locked up.”

Caputo faces a maximum sentence of one year in prison if convicted.
