Even while on vacation, these two Americans were more than prepared to intervene in a potentially deadly situation.

US Airman First Class Spencer Stone and Oregon National Guard member Alek Skarlatos were aboard a Paris-bound train when a Moroccan national with an AK-47, nine magazines of ammo, a box cutter and a pistol appeared.

“I saw a guy entering the train with an AK-47 and a handgun and I just looked over to Spencer and said, ‘Let’s go, go!'” Skarlatos said.

The two servicemen and an American college student overpowered the attacker and wrestled away his automatic weapons. Stone was slashed with the box cutter, but only suffered minor wounds. Three people total were injured during the fight.

The gunmen, a suspected radical Islamist, has been taken into custody. Meanwhile, Stone and Skarlatos received a hero’s welcome in Paris.
