March 16, 1802: Legislation marking the official birth of West Point Military Academy is signed by Thomas Jefferson.

Located approximately 50 miles north of New York City, West Point was originally occupied by the Continental Army in January 1778, and has since become the oldest continuously-operating US Army post.

Today, The West Point Military Academy stands as an internationally recognized institution for academic, military and physical excellence. It has been educating and training leaders in the US Army for more than 200 years, producing some of our nations’ finest generals, and even 2 US Presidents.
