Terrorist attacks inspire other terrorist attacks. Extremism begets extremism. It is thus no surprise that the horrific terrorist shooting in San Bernardino last week has inspired another fundamentalist to lash out.

Thankfully, only one jihadist has come out of the wood work so far, and his attempt at terrorism failed miserably.

British citizen Muhaydin Mire tried to behead a stranger in a London train station over the weekend. Mire was able to beat a London commuter to the ground before he brandished a large knife. Onlookers then intervened and pulled him away from his victim. According to investigators, his phone contained ISIS-related images and messaging praising the San Bernardino and Paris attacks, indicating that they inspired him to act.

In a now viral video, spectators jeer as Mire is arrested. One East Londoner who witnessed the scene said, “You ain’t no Muslim, bruv!”

The quote caught fire on Twitter as users publicly relished how the “wonderfully British” quote invalidates ISIS extremists. It was even referenced by Prime Minister David Cameron when he addressed the country hours later.

“First of all, full credit to the person and people who took on this attacker, and full credit to the very brave police officers who managed to subdue him,” Cameron said. “Let me also pay credit to the person—you can’t quite see who it is—from the film who made that brilliant statement about ‘You ain’t no Muslim.”

“Some of us have dedicated speeches and media appearances and soundbites and everything to this subject. But ‘You ain’t no Muslim, bruv’ said it all much better than I ever could. Thank you because that will be applauded around the country.”

With any luck, Mire’s failure to hurt anyone and public embarrassment will serve as a warning for other potential jihadists and inspire them to reject terrorism.
