Should you find yourself in the not-too-distant future lounging on the remote Arctic archipelago of Svalbard, remember not to do the following.

According to Norwegian authorities, a foreign tourist was hurt (but thankfully not seriously) when a polar bear (not drinking a bottle of Coke) attacked the tent he was sleeping in on the cold northern isle.

Many presume the visitor was there for Friday’s total eclipse, which has hotels throughout Svalbard booked up.

Unfortunately, the bear was shot dead after the attack.

While it’s not everyday you hear of a polar bear going after a human, but on the Norwegian archipelago, it’s common knowledge that they’re around and always lurking. Outside of established settlements, natives regularly carry firearms in the event that an encounter occurs.
