127 homeless vets in Indiana will soon have places to call home.
The Department of Urban Housing and the Department of Veterans affairs recently announced that more than $605,000 in rental vouchers will be given to Indiana public housing agencies to assist 127 local veterans find housing.
According to HUD, nearly 58,000 veterans are homeless each night. More than 12 percent of Indiana’s veteran population is homeless.
HUD secretary Julian Castro said its unacceptable that so many veterans are homeless after serving our country.
The assistance program will expand to additional cities and counties in Indiana.
