A drowning kitten in Italy may have just purred the “meow” heard ’round the world recently. Nessun scherzo.

That’s because the poor little thing was all out of breaths, and left for dead when kids found it lifeless and floating near the Sicilian port of Marsala. The cherubs handed it off to the Italian coast guard who — through miraculous massage and mouth-to-mouth resuscitation administered by one of the sailors (the “kiss of life” as they dubbed it) — brought the baby cat back to life.

Here’s footage:

According to The New York Times, a vet in the area reports that the kitten is doing just fine now, and healthy. He’s living large at a nearby maritime office and has been named “Charlie.”
