American Sniper, Clint Eastwood’s new film based on Chris Kyle’s autobiography as the most lethal U.S. military sniper, earned $90.2 million at the box office during its opening weekend. This strong early showing is the largest-ever January film opening.
Further, the film has grossed more on its opening weekend than any other Iraq war film.
The film is director Clint Eastwood’s best box office opening, even outperforming Gran Torino, which earned $29.4 on its opening weekend.
American Sniper is nominated for several Oscars, including Best Picture, Best Actor, and Best Adapted Screenplay.
