The title ‘Navy SEALs Vs. Zombies’ should tell you everything you need to know about this film–namely that it is campy in every sense of the word yet still a lot of fun to watch. The film, which reportedly stars real Navy SEALs, will be available in Digital HD on Sept. 25 and on DVD and Bluray Oct. 6.

Here’s the summary from the film’s press release:

After losing all contact with the Vice President during a routine campaign stop in Louisiana, the U.S. Government sends in a team of Navy SEALs for the rescue. Dropped into a warzone, the SEALs quickly discover that they aren’t dealing with a normal enemy. The city is under siege by hordes of fast-moving, flesh- eating undead. The infection is spreading and urban warfare has been unleashed. With no cure in sight and time running out, the elite unit has to survive their most horrific mission.

The film is directed by racecar driver Stanton Barrett and stars NBA player Rick Fox, ‘American Ninja’ Michael Dudikoff, ‘Star Trek’ actor Molly Hagan and ‘True Blood’ star Ed Quinn. The movie was also “filmed with the participation of former U.S. Navy SEALs.” With the involvement of real military veterans, we would hope that the film would offer some of the realism the military community hungers for in war movies.

Sorry military buffs, but the trailer is so cheesy it might as well be drenched in bubbling queso. Throughout the trailer, bold lettering such as “HOME OF THE BRAVE, LAND OF THE DEAD” is superimposed on jumping film cuts of bearded men (SEALs, we presume) shooting zombies and kicking down doors. “Code Red!” some guy yells at some point for some reason. SEALs frequently cock their firearms in unison to show they mean business, and all the while CGI zombie brains splatter against the camera lens to add extra gore to already violent scenes.

It’s ridiculous, but that’s what makes the film fun. The movie is called ‘Navy SEALs Vs. Zombies’ for crying out loud. It’s not trying to win an Oscar, it’s trying to entertain. For all its camp, we can get behind that.
