In early 2015, veteran-owned clothing brands Ranger Up and Article 15 Clothing raised $1 million to make their very own military zombie film. The trailer to this anticipated film has finally made its Internet debut, and it’s just as amazing as it sounds.
The movie, Range 15, stars real military veterans navigating a zombie apocalypse the only way they know how–with humor and guns. The military zombie romp is designed to be light-hearted, violent, and laced with inside jokes only the military community will enjoy.
From the beginning, the veterans behind the movie wanted to create a work of art Hollywood has failed to make.
“We’re making the military movie you’ve always wanted someone to make: relentless ball busting, guns, explosions, hot chicks, booze, and more guns,” the Range 15 team wrote on its IndieGoGo page. “We will not dramatically salute each other. We will kill lots of shit, all while using our weapons correctly.”
The film’s trailer was first released at the Sundance Film Festival on Monday, and it was posted to Youtube on Tuesday. In the short teaser, viewers get a taste of Range 15‘s biggest stars and cameos: Navy SEAL Mark Luttrell, Army Ranger Mat Best, Medal of Honor recipients Leroy Petry and Clint Romesha and Tim Kennedy, and double amputee Mary Dague.
Dague, a former IED disposal technician who lost both arms in Iraq, told Broadly that she loves the movie’s realistic, yet satirical approach to violence.
“I like that [the script is] raw. It’s a lot of dark humor—it’s not the fluffed up military that most Hollywood movies portray,” she said.
The full film will premiere in May 2016.
