Let’s be honest — on the day of the long-awaited Iowa Caucus, we were all this blunt, smack-talking veteran voter.

At the caucus, MSNBC interviewed a group of Millennials about veterans issues, specifically whether Bernie Sanders can address the problems at the Department of Veterans Affairs. One young female veteran voter, who was never identified, stepped forward and delivered a passionate statement about what she expects from the presidential candidate. Her main complaint? Receiving benefits.

“What I want to know is how can I get VA?” she says into the microphone. “I am VA. I am a vet. My mom’s a vet. How is he going to fix it, because I can tell you right now that the VA is more screwed up than it has been in a while. The fact that I haven’t gotten benefits in three months because the VA is so f#%&ed up–”

And then the reporter pulls away the microphone, forcing the veteran’s speech to abruptly end.

The conversation amongst the Millennials fades out as another voter says, “If you can’t support our veterans, don’t send them to war.” The rich tones of Brian Williams overtakes the audio.

“Listening to caucuses, you take the good with the bad,” Williams said. “People often speak the way they do out on the street…We all join in in apologizing for the French that snuck in.”

We do have some questions about this video, namely the branch and military experience of the veteran voter and what benefits she is waiting for. But even without this information, it’s a good thing to see her speak up about corruption in the VA, strong language included.
