For two days, a six-foot tall and extremely aggressive rhea has run amuck through the streets of Nottinghamshire. The flightless bird was reported missing on Tuesday and it has yet to be apprehended.

The story is similar to the “Llamagate” debacle in Arizona in February, but this aggravated bird is much more dangerous than a friendly llama. The largest species of bird found in South America, rheas are notorious for their powerful kicks and bad attitude. Their legs are capable of disemboweling large predators in a single blow, including lions and (unfortunately) human beings.

Once word of the roaming rhea got out, local police swiftly issued a safety warning to surrounding communities:

“We are warning local people and particularly those with small children to be on their guard and not to approach the bird, which poses a very real threat to the public due to its size, aggressive nature and the unfamiliar surroundings it could find itself in.”
