There was this initial mystery (guns stolen from a United States Army Reserve Center in New England, no one knows by whom).

Then the resolution (a former U.S. Army reservist facing child rape charges broke in and stole them).

But somewhere in between, just before the riddle’s answer was announced and that James Walker Morales — a 34-year-old from Long Island, New York — was the culprit, another man (an unidentified man) came into the picture to seal the case shut.

He’s a homeless man, in the Bronx, and one day last week while collecting bottles and cans in a park directly across from Yankee Stadium, he came upon a garbage bag with three of the 16 missing weapons from the Lincoln W. Stoddard Army Reserve Center in Worcester, Massachusetts.

Instead of keeping them for himself, or selling them to a street dealer, he called 911, and turned the guns over to local police.

According to officials, the reservist stole 10 Sig Sauer 9mm pistols and six M-4 combat rifles from the military facility.
