Out of nowhere, the video message from Notre Dame basketball guard Matt Farrell’s brother blared from the Jumbotron at the Fighting Irish’s game against Colgate University.

Bo Farrell, a United States Army officer, deployed this year to Afghanistan and was scheduled to be back in February.

“Matty, I’ve been watching you tonight from here. For us, home is wherever we’re together. And I look forward to being home with you soon,” Bo said in the clip.

“Really, really soon.”

“I just remember when we were kids and everybody would call you ‘Squirrel’.”

“You’ve always followed your hopes and you’ve always followed your dreams, and I just want you to know how proud I am of you. I love you, and I miss you very much.”

Underline: “really, really soon.”

Thanks to a prank — perhaps the best kind there is — the brothers from Bridgewater, New Jersey were in for a night they will never, ever forget.

The Irish prevailed in the game, by the way, beating their opponent out of the Patriot League by a score of 77-62. Farrell chipped in 13 points in the victory.

After that reunion, however, only the history books will remember the win. The rest who were there will only recall that moment.
