It didn’t matter what Mother Nature threw at him. Kenneth Varnes was going to get out of his truck and give the late military veteran passing before him in a funeral process the proper sendoff.

That’s why the young man, a United States Army soldier stationed at Fort Hood in Texas, was seen in a photograph that has since gone viral, saluting in the pouring rain.

“I don’t care if they were 80 years old, they were in World War II, they were in Vietnam, they were in Iraq, I don’t care if they were 20,” Varnes told local station KWTX.

“It’s a brotherhood.”

A funny thing happened when the service member got out of his vehicle, too. Seconds later, the rain lightened up.

After his salute, as he got back into his pickup, the downpour picked up intensity once again.
