Military members and veterans are tweeting #IWillProtectYour to Muslim Americans after one Muslim child told her mother she was afraid the Army was coming to kick them out of the country.

Shortly after Donald Trump controversially proposed that the United States simply ban all Muslims from entering the country regardless of citizenship status, Melissa Chance Yassini posted on Facebook that the news terrified her young daughter Sophia. It has now been shared 22,000 times.

Sad day in America when I have to comfort my 8 year old child who heard that someone with yellow hair named Trump wanted to kick all Muslims out of America. She had began collecting all her favorite things in a bag in case the army came to remove us from our homes. She checked the locks on the door 3-4 times. This is terrorism. No child in America deserves to feel that way.

As Yassini’s post was picked up by news outlets, Army veteran Kerri Peek felt uncomfortable that a young girl was terrified that the Army was going to take her away. She decided to singlehandedly start a hashtag campaign to show Sophia and other kids that the military wasn’t there to hurt them.

“I want these precious babies to know that we will not come and grab them out of their homes and hurt them and their families,” Peek wrote. “They are afraid of us!! We are the force that stands between precious children and the bad guys. So let’s start a hashtag campaign.”

Military members started to post pictures of themselves in uniform alongside encouraging messages vowing to protect all American citizens.
