Military dog Rocky won the hearts of the Internet when he was photographed in the hospital wearing his handler’s Purple Heart. After he recovered from his wounds, Rocky shared an emotion reunion with Specialist Andrew Brown of the U.S. Army Military Police.

Rocky and Brown were in Afghanistan in October when they were wounded by an improvised explosive device. The two were separated so they could receive medical treatment for their injuries, but not before Brown placed his Purple Heart on Rocky’s collar.

Unfortunately, it took far longer for the two soldiers to get back on their feet than expected. The military dog’s back leg was shattered by the explosion, and it took months of therapy for it to heal. Now Rocky is back on his feet, he was finally able to visit Brown for the first time since they went their separate ways.

Rocky is still on active-duty, so it’s possible he will be deployed again with a new handler. If the pooch is retired, Brown said he wouldn’t hesitate to offer Rocky a home.
