Brand new and extremely concerning details about Iran’s detention of United States military service members after their riverine command boats ended up in waters off Farsi Island in the Persian Gulf due to a “mechanical error” have come to light.

And they’re pretty ugly, to say the least.

This from Reuters:

The 10 U.S. sailors who were briefly detained by the Iranian military last week were held at gunpoint and had a verbal exchange with Iranian personnel before they were released, the U.S. military said Monday.

No gunfire was exchanged, according to the report. No details have yet been shed on just what exactly was expressed in the “verbal exchange”.

On Monday, in a speech at Liberty University in Virginia, American presidential hopeful Donald Trump commented on the incident.

“Those young people were on their hands and knees in a begging position with their hands up and thugs behind them with guns, and then we talk like it’s OK. It’s not OK. It’s lack of respect.”

Immediately after last week’s news, U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry said on live television that he was “extremely upset and angry” about how the sailors were treated.

Conversely, the Obama administration has publicly stated that the situation highlighted the progress made between the two countries since the nuclear pact and the overall power of diplomacy.
