It’s still unclear what caused a United States Air Force U-2 spy plane to crash in northern California on Tuesday, but one thing, tragically, is: a pilot was killed, and the other one is injured (although the extent of the airman’s injuries has yet to be revealed).

Initially it was reported that both airmen ejected safely.

While it’s true that they both ejected, as you can see in the following footage (via KCRA in California) taken by a bystander near the crash site (their parachutes are visible in white against the blue sky) — their fates were anything but safe.
