An individual with no scruples or holiday spirit stole the Christmas lights right off the roof of a military veteran with cancer.

James Sehon of Libery Township, Ohio is well known in his community for putting up elaborate decorations every holiday season. Even since his wife passed away 25 years ago, it has become an annual tradition for Sehon to add to make his Christmas display brighter every year.

“I want the kids…to enjoy what I put up,” Sehon said.

On Sunday night, a thief stole onto Sehon’s property and stripped the house of its lights and destroyed large pieces of the display. The veteran was devastated when he woke up the next morning to see his bright holiday tribute completely trashed.

“I feel a little violated. I served my country and everything else and then you come out, you try to do something for people and what do they do? They wind up taking advantage of you or stealing from you,” Sehon lamented.

Despite the grinch’s attempt to snuff Sehon’s holiday cheer, his community united to help him rebuild his display. A local Home Depot agreed to donate whatever decorations Sehon needs to his home, and a boy scout troop has volunteered to put the display back together. With his community’s support, hopefully Sehon will be able to continue to light up his home for the next twenty years.

“I think they are darn nice people,” Sehon said. “I never thought we had people like that coming down here. You have some bad ones, but you also have a lot of good ones. I just hope the people that stole those items, I hope they enjoy them.”
