“We were interviewing people for this position, and he was one of the applicants. And so he showed up for the interview and he had Charlotte with him,” said Jay Fellers, the human resources manager at a Lowe’s in Abilene, Texas.

And … he was hired.

These days disabled United States Air Force veteran Clay Luthy, alongside his service dog Charlotte, go about their work at the DIY hardware superstore in the Lone Star State.

“Instead of medications, I have Charlotte,” said Luthy.

They’ve been together for ten years.

Often in the paint department, where there’s space for Charlotte to sit down, they help customers while both sporting their red Lowe’s vests.

They’ve even become a hit on social media.

A customer posted the following photograph on Facebook recently with a comment: “I love Abilene Lowes, way to go! This is a disabled vet who struggled to get a job because he needs his service dog! Lowes hired them BOTH!!!”
