Just as the Air Force’s Tops in Blue sang its final song, the U.S. Army Soldier Show will also hang up its show choir costumes for good. The service distributed a memo to all of its performers that the Army Soldier Show was canceling its upcoming tour.

The Army Soldier Show was the service’s (former) touring performing arts troupe that traveled between military bases in order to provide Broadway-style entertainment. On Dec. 18, a new crop of soldiers auditioned for the troupe and were preparing for their 2016 season, which was slated to start February.

But it is not to be. A surprise memo has halted the Army Soldier Show for the time being, possibly for good. According to the ArmyTimes, the service does not intend to release an official statement or answer questions behind its reasoning for canceling the troupe.

Unlike the Tops in Blue, which cancelled its season after a long period of criticism and negative feedback from the Air Force community, the dissolution of the Army Soldier Show was sudden. After all, less than a month ago the troupe was auditioning new members. If the service had been planning to cut the troupe, it would have made sense to do so before welcoming new performers into the fold.

The Army Soldier Show also doesn’t suffer from the same criticisms at the Tops in Blue. The Air Force group had an infamously high budget, most of which was funded by taxpayer money. The Army Soldier Show is funded by the Morale, Welfare and Recreation business programs, and private sponsorships.
