There are certain immutable laws of life that, once in a while, rear their stony, rigid head. One of them is to never whiz on the electric fence, and the other involves not sending machine gun fire in the direction of your comrades.

A clumsy Norwegian pilot learned the latter lesson while flying his F-16 recently. Thankfully, the mistake didn’t cost any limbs or lives, but he accidentally triggered the machine gun attached to the aircraft and sent bullets into a control tower with three officers inside — according to the country’s military.

This from the Hindustan Times:

Two F-16s were taking part in a mock attack on the uninhabited island of Tarva off Norway’s west coast when one of them opened fire with its M61 Vulcan cannon, which is capable of firing up to 100 rounds a second.

“An investigation has been opened,” Captain Brynjar Stordal, a spokesman for the Norwegian military, said.

A hail of bullets hit the tower in the incident, which happened on the night of April 12, but the officers inside were not injured.

Whoopsie. Someone get this aviator a special test.
