Nicolas Cage’s acting has sunk a movie or two, but this is likely the first time one of his movies has sunk a vintage Catalina PBY flying boat within a few feet of beachgoers right off the coast of Gold Beach, Florida.

But, alas, it has.

This particular amphibious aircraft’s name is Flora-Bama (you can see it bobbing beneath the waves in the video below) and it was being used as a prop for Cage’s film titled USS Indianapolis: Men of Honor. The movie aims to chronicle the sinking of the heavy cruiser in 1945, when it was torpedoed by the Japanese in the Pacific Ocean

More about this old aircraft’s demise from Foxtrot Alpha:

Apparently the vintage flying was about a mile off shore before it began taking on water. Then divers assigned to the movie production crew went out and pulled it towards the beach and started running pumps to get rid of the water. That didn’t work so well. They even tried to use a backhoe to pull it onto the beach, but the lines snapped.
